Blog Entry 4: "Our Trusted Friends"

In the book "Fast Food Nation" written by Eric Schlosser, chapter 2 "Our Trusted Friends" sums up the way business owners Ray Kroc and Walt Disney became so successful. They profited their money because of a strategy called "Cradle to Grave". They gained the brand loyalty of children starting from the age of 2 and gained life long customers because of it.
Mcdonalds had a great strategy for children to "Nag" their parents into buying Mcdonalds. They created cool characters, sold happy meals that included a cool toy and had commercials air on television, persuading children that Mcdonalds was the greatest place on earth. Exspecially because it was cheaper than Disney World.
Walt Disney also profited from children. He also created characters like the famous "Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse) who til this day almost every child can recognize. Disney world, because it is so expensive, parents save up their money for years so that their child can have at least that one time experience at Disney World.
